I read somewhere that only 20% of books sell 1000 copies, and while I have always thought it would be romantic to be discovered posthumously, I also have a really competitive streak, and took this as a personal challenge.
Three of my five books have sold more than 1000 copies. Actually, I did the math the other day and added up all the books I’ve sold, including ebooks, since I became a published writer in 2020. (These numbers don’t include the last six months of sales for The Long Night and Blessings for the Long Night since I haven’t received that report yet.)
365 Days of Peace: 3,480 copies sold
The Long Night: 3,070 copies sold
Blessings for the Long Night: 1298 copies sold
Good Morning, Friends: 436 copies sold
Open Things: 155 copies sold
As you can see, Good Morning, Friends and Open Things have a lot of catching up to do. So I thought I’d throw a little flash sale for Open Things. I’d really like to get that little book into your hands! So from now through October 1st, Open Things will be just $3 on Kindle and $5.50 in paperback. If you were waiting for a sale to pick it up, now’s your chance! Or if you already read it and want to shop ahead for birthday or holiday gifts, you can pick up a few!
Here’s the eponymous poem:
open things
and finally after the storms
and the long nights
and the locked doors
and the well-trodden paths
and the mourning like doves
and the bitter longing
after all of that it turns out
that life is full of open things
beautiful and spacious
ready for the for the asking
and the taking
why did I wait? for so long
wanting only what was
closed to me?

P.S. Maybe you’re wondering why I’m sharing my sales numbers here. It might seem a little gauche? Not quite what’s done? But it’s actually really important to me to break the unspoken rules of secrecy surrounding the world of writing and publishing. The times other authors have shared their sales, or what they got for an advance, have been really helpful to me as a writer, and I want to offer the same transparency. Also I’m autistic and I really like sharing fun facts. :)
P.P.S. 365 Days of Peace is actually also on sale right now for $14, so you could pick up both books for just under $20!
