One of my favorite things about my life right now is that I get to help out with the social media for Madeleine L’Engle. The beloved author died in 2006, but her granddaughter and executor, Charlotte Jones Voiklis, runs social media accounts for her on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. A couple of years ago she asked me to help out, and it has been such an honor to be a small part of keeping Madeleine’s words in circulation on the interwebs.
If you follow the accounts, you might have noticed that on Fridays we post quotes from Madeleine about writing. She had some strong ideas, not all of which work for me as a writer. (I’m afraid I don’t sit and write on a schedule everyday, but instead tend to wait for inspiration to come first. I know, I know.) But it’s always fascinating to me to see how her mind worked, with brilliance and fierce determination.
So here are five of my favorite of her quotes on writing. (With, incidentally, graphics that I designed — hire me!)
~ONE~
~TWO~
~THREE~
~FOUR~
~FIVE~
I love that you get to do this!! ✨✨✨
I am sitting with quote #3 and put it into calligraphy so I can hang on these words in the weeks to come.
