Happy May, everyone!
It's my birthday today, and I'm feeling the opposite of Anne Shirley: Well in spirit but considerably rumpled in body. I'm icing my knees, rolling a tennis ball on my feet, and taking migraine meds in preparation for the above performance tonight, where I’ll be reading one of my poems as the Infinity Dance Collective dances. This is our second time performing together, and the first was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. You can watch it either life or streaming, tonight or tomorrow night. I’ve been continuing to enjoy creating graphic designs over on Canva. Here are some of my latest designs, for clients and just for fun. As you can see, I’ve been thinking a lot about the sun, during a rainy spring here in Boston. You can find out more about my work over on Fiverr or on my website.
Our little writing community over at Finding Your Voice has been growing, slowly but surely! I’m about to head over there now to post the weekly “Feedback Friday” space, where we share what we’ve been working on and receive supportive, encouraging feedback. If you’re a writer, or aspiring writer, who is autistic, ADHD, or who struggles with depression or other mental illness, we’d love to see you over there! Everyone who subscribes for free receives a free one-month bump to paid benefits, so you have a chance to try it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. I strongly believe that the world needs our voices.
And here’s a little poem I wrote recently, about the children that I’ve cared for over the years. There’s nothing that can pull me out of a low mood like a child’s smile.
Sky Child
Jessica Kantrowitz
I must be the earth
and you must be the sky
How else is it that your small
body curled into mine
creates a horizon?
How else is it that your eyes
become two crescent moons
when you smile?
How else is it that I—
a lump of moss and clay—
can make you smile?
In love and hope,
Jessica
Happy birthday, Jessica! Hope your day is wonderful!
